The Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear at New Jersey
Motorsports Park, September 12 - 14

The Star Mazda Championship is the college football of Indy Car racing, the high-profile,
intensely-competitive series where the stars of tomorrow hone their skills and accelerate their
careers. Alumni include IRL stars Marco Andretti and Graham Rahal and NASCAR rising
star Michael McDowell.
New for 2008 are 'standing starts' such as those used by F1 -- thirty carbon-fiber rockets on
wheels burning rubber while drag-racing flat-out into Turn 1 is a spectacular display of both
daring skill and luck.
The Star Mazda Championship is a major step on the MAZDASPEED Motorsports Driver
Development Ladder in which Mazda funds rides for the champions in various series
reaching all the way from karting to the Atlantic Championship. Joel Miller (#20) won his
2008 Star Mazda ride by being the 2007 Skip Barber Champion. And 2007 Star Mazda
Champion Dane Cameron has just scored a trio of top-5 finishes in his Mazda-sponsored
drive with Genoa Racing in the 2008 Atlantic Championship.

Diversity goes Zoom-Zoom in the Star Mazda Championship; there are competitors from
eight countries, drivers ranging in age from 17 to 65, three female racers, a brother/sister
team (Kester Racing), a father/son team (Team Tomlin) and several corporate CEOs.
The Star Mazda Championship features classes within the main race for older drivers who
compete both in the overall race for points, prize money and prestige, but also in their own
separate championship battle. The Expert Series is for drivers aged 30 to 44, while the
Expert Series is for drivers 45 and older. This is one of the few examples in any sport where
you will see a 17-year old and a 65 year-old competing head-to-head in an extremely athletic
and inherently hazardous activity.
